For Your Info

This is an unofficial site intended to provide useful information to Taxpayers wishing to use the AARP Foundation TaxAide services available at the Wimberley Senior Center. We hope to give you the most current and accurate information available but this site does not officially represent the views, policies, or guidance from the Senior Center, the City of Wimberley, the AARP Foundation, or the IRS.

The AARP Foundation TaxAide service offers free income tax return preparation and assistance to everyone - there are no age or income limitations and AARP membership is not required. We are limited only by the scope of our training (see link to "What we can and cannot do", below, right). Our preparers are trained and certified by the IRS.

(Jan 27,2026) PLEASE NOTE: We finally have received all necessary forms and Taxpayer packets are now available for pickup. We have plenty of appointment openings so come on in and sign up!

Tax Season 2026 (Tax Year 2025):    Feb 6 to April 15, 2026

Jan 13, 2026 Update:

Wimberley TaxAide for 2026 will operate at the Wimberley Senior Center on Fridays, starting February 6 and ending April 15. Up to 20 appointments will be available each Friday between 12:30 and 3:15 pm. Please note that multiple appointment slots may and likely will be blocked out due to a shortage of volunteers. We will make every effort to accomodate demand and we ask that you please attend any appointments you have signed up for so as not to waste a slot. If we cannot accomodate you, please use the Site Locator link at the bottom of the page for information on other TaxAide sites near you. You can also look at other free options: see Alternate Tax Preparation link at bottom right or look at IRS Free File options.

The Senior Center is located inside the Wimberley Community Center, 14068 Ranch Road 12, in Wimberley - enter at the traffic light opposite River Road. Entrance to the Senior Center is at the far end of the building.

You must sign up for an appointment, in person and in advance, at the Senior Center Office, and pick up a forms packet. Forms are also available to download from the links at right. We normally cannot serve walk-ins with no appointment but may be able to do so on a very limited space available basis.

Our general preparation process will be identical to last year: sign up in advance for a Friday appointment at the Center and pick up the forms packet along with any required worksheets; complete the forms at home; come to your appointment for a short intake interview (~ 60 minutes) and drop off all tax documents; we keep your documents and prepare the return off-site; and you return the following Friday at an assigned time to pick up the completed return along with all documents you left with us.

A separate binder next to the sign in sheets contains worksheets that apply to certain situations. If any of those situations apply to you, please tear out a copy of the applicable worksheet(s) and include it in your packet. You may also download any of the worksheets from the links at right. The worksheets include those related to new deductions created in the 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) Act. There is also a link to an IRS Fact Sheet on the OBBB Act deductions.

Depending on the complexity of your return, you can expect to spend at least an hour, and more likely several hours, organizing your tax documents and completing the required forms prior to your first appointment. Don't wait until the last minute. If you arrive at your appointment and do not have the necessary documents or have not substantially completed all the required forms, you may be asked to reschedule. Brokerage statements normally are not available until mid-March at the earliest.

Refer to the "Read First" and "Come Prepared" links at right for additional details.

We hope to see you in 2026!

Special note for teachers who recieved TRS retirement and social security in 2024: due to a change in the law, you likely received additional 2025 payment this year for last year. You must bring last year's return for us to be able to complete this year's return.

Special note for individuals with an IRS assigned PIN. You must provide us your most current PIN issued in a letter from the IRS in December or January, regardless of which year return we are preparing.
